Not for nothing, the mountain offers besides natural beauty, a tunnel through the mountain also a piece of history in the form of a medieval fortress.<\/p>\n<p>The fort was built by an Italian architect on behalf of King Felipe II to protect the coast from the sea and the Moors. The fort, however, turned out to have been built in an unfortunate place. A perfect view to the south, east and west, but to attack without being seen from the north. In addition, supplying the fort was virtually impossible, for this reason Felipe III had the fort demolished. What was left was a ruin, but it gives a good impression of the building that once stood there and is certainly impressive.<\/p>\n<p>The duration of this beautiful walk depends on 3.5 to 5 hours, depending on whether or not you take the expansion to the top. In the route via <a href=\"https:\/\/nl.wikiloc.com\/wikiloc\/view.do?id=2779515\"> this link <\/a> on Wikiloc the extension is included, of course you can also skip this. It is not a difficult hike, but the climb and sometimes loose or slippery stones require attention.<\/p>\n<p>Although the route is only 3 km away from Can Elisa as the crow flies, you can only reach the starting point via a detour. At 30 minutes drive from Can Elisa is Altea la Vella, here you find the exit towards the starting point, from this exit it is a 15 minute drive via a steep road.
